Welder/Fabricator III

Reports to: Value Stream Manager

Job Summary:

Experienced Welder and Fabricator who has demonstrated skills in assembling modules, building frames and piping Ceramic Membrane Filter Modules and Reverse Osmosis Systems. These skills, in addition to the standard welder skills are required for this position. The position requires 3-5 years’ experience in building these assemblies and will be required to train others and lead the development of production capability and process improvement.


  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures for manufacturing CMF and RO units. This is not exclusive of normal Pump Sets, Valve Nests and Mod Piping. Provide feedback to engineering on changes necessary to facilitate good manufacturing processes and reduced cost of manufacture.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements; work with Industrial Engineering to better define workspaces, equipment and station layout to enhance productivity and quality of CMF/RO builds.
  • Train assigned employees in correct measurement techniques and alignment techniques to ensure system performance to customer and engineering specifications. Individual will be required to hands-on train other journeyman welders and pipe fitters to manufacture to engineering requirements.
  • Work directly with the Value Stream Manager to meet agreed upon schedules and ensure resources and materials are aligned to meet these schedules. Recommend additional resources and plan efficient and accountable overtime as necessary to complete schedules to committed dates.
  • Perform Quality Release Inspections in conjunction with the QA program and help with training and corrective action to KWS standards for welding and assembly.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead). Help to develop improved methods of alignment and fastening (Victaulic) assemblies that reduce direct labor costs.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws, determine cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain equipment and workstations to the highest level of 5S compliance. Audit scores are to remain under 25, with improvement plans to reach under 10.


  • Experience in welding, assembling and fabricating RO/CMF systems.
  • Accountability to meet agreed upon schedules and to do “whatever it takes” to meet customer commitments both internally and externally.
  • Adherence to and commitment to further development of the Kemco Welding Standard (KWS) and the willingness to teach others to meet this standard.
  • Willingness and ability to work agreed upon overtime schedules to meet commitments.
  • Desire and commitment to build a team and train this team to work together to build CMF and RO systems at high levels of productivity (meet or exceed established standards).

Work Environment:

  • May occasionally work in temperatures over 100
  • May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces
  • Will climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis during each shift
  • Noise level in the work environment requires hearing protection during noise exposure periods.

Additional Attributes:

  • Professional Certifications (e.g. AWS welding certificate) will be a plus, adherence to KWS (Kemco Welding Standard) is required.
  • Ability to work closely with Engineering to make product design and manufacturing changes to enhance productivity and efficiency is required.
  • Ability to keep Good Welding Procedure Qualification Records through audit and conducting periodic quality audits of trainees is required
