Mefiag Corrosion-Resistant Filtration Systems

Plating baths, anodizing lines and cleaning solutions are some of the most aggressive liquids in any industrial facility, and the filtration that protects them has to withstand the same chemistry it cleans. Mefiag, now part of Kemco Systems, has designed corrosion-resistant filtration systems for the electroplating and metal finishing industries since 1953. Combining horizontal disc, cartridge, bag, carbon and oil-absorbing technologies, the Mefiag product line keeps process baths clean, extends chemistry life and reduces disposal costs in the harshest chemical environments.

Plating, anodizing and cleaning baths collect suspended solids, organic contaminants and oils with every production cycle. Left unfiltered, those contaminants cause rough deposits, pitting, rejected parts and early bath dumps.

Mefiag systems are built from polypropylene, CPVC, PVDF, rubber-lined steel and stainless steel to resist acids, alkalis and oxidizers that quickly degrade conventional filter housings. Horizontal disc designs hold large volumes of sludge in a compact footprint, so facilities change media less often and send less waste off-site.

Mefiag filtration systems serve demanding process applications, including:
  • Nickel, zinc, tin, copper, brass and chrome plating
  • Precious metal plating
  • Anodizing solutions
  • Rinsing and cleaning solutions
  • Sodium carbonate removal
  • Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) manufacturing
  • Industrial wastewater

Between rising chemical costs, stricter discharge limits and growing pressure to reduce waste, extending bath life has never been more valuable. Mefiag systems remove solids and organic impurities continuously, so chemistry stays in specification longer and fewer baths are dumped and replaced. Large sludge holding capacity and reusable polypropylene media lower disposal costs, making Mefiag filtration both an economical and environmentally responsible choice for metal finishers.

Horizontal Disc Filter Systems

Mefiag horizontal disc filters stack polypropylene discs inside a single chamber to deliver maximum filtration surface area in a small footprint. LS and HF Series rubber-lined filters handle flow rates to 30,000 gallons per hour, while PP Series all-polypropylene filters handle flow rates to 7,000 gallons per hour. Compact CD Series disc filters serve smaller tanks.

  • Large sludge holding capacity and low disposal cost
  • Corrosion-resistant construction for the most severe applications
  • Optional slurry tank for easy pre-coating
  • Mechanical lifting of the filter stack, FRP pumps with a choice of mechanical seals and NEMA 4X corrosion-resistant starters on “Next Generation” models

Cartridge, Bag and Carbon Filter Chambers

Mefiag filter chambers offer flexible configurations for a wide range of applications, with three chamber sizes providing up to 5 square feet of high-volume filtration area.

  • Flow rates up to 7,500 GPH (1,703 m³/hr)
  • Chamber pressure to 50 psi (345 kPa)
  • CPVC construction standard, with stainless steel and PVDF available in certain sizes
  • Mag-drive self-priming pump options

Carbon Treatment and Filtration Systems

Mefiag carbon treatment systems remove both solid particles and organic impurities in a single, compact, portable slimline unit. No separate treatment tanks are required.

  • Filtration to 6,300 GPH (1,431 m³/hr)
  • Carbon treatment to 3,750 GPH (852 m³/hr)

Oil-Absorbing Filters

Mefiag V-Series oil-absorbing filters protect cleaning solutions, rinse tanks and wastewater systems from oil contamination.

  • All-polypropylene construction for superior corrosion resistance
  • Easy-flow basket for maximum absorptive capacity
  • Full selection of polypropylene pumps and an optional slurry tank
  • Temperatures to 180°F (82°C)

Filter Media, Cartridges and Bags

Mefiag supplies replacement media engineered for Mefiag filter systems.

  • Horizontal disc filter media: Disposable cellulose paper, reusable polypropylene cloth and felt, and activated carbon impregnated media for simultaneous filtration and treatment
  • String wound depth filters: A large selection of stock sizes, materials, cores and densities that remove particles from 1 to 150 microns
  • Pleated filters: High-strength polypropylene construction, 3 or 20 micron filtration, backwashable
  • Bag filters: Two layers of high-strength polypropylene felt for higher solids loading capacity, with a positive seal that prevents bypass
