Challenge: Rising Costs Threatening Operational Affordability

Medico Healthcare Linen Service, a trusted provider of medical linen solutions for healthcare professionals, delivers high-quality, hygienically clean linen and garments for the medical industry. Medico was facing rising costs in surcharges associated with its waste disposal and looking to take advantage of a substantial rebate offered by the city of Los Angeles for reducing the amount of water discharge to sewer.

The 10% increase in sewer surcharges implemented in 2025 as part of a 5-year annual plan that began in 2024 in South Gate, a Los Angeles suburb, prompted Medico to seek a cost-effective solution that not only reduced expenses but also complied with industry standards for wastewater reuse. By utilizing Kemco’s patented KLEENWATER™ system, Medico has drastically reduced costs, allowing the company to maintain affordable prices for its customers.

Solution: KLEENWATER™ Wastewater Recovery System

Kemco’s solution was to install the KLEENWATER™ system in Medico’s facility to efficiently recover wastewater by combining ceramic membrane filtration and reverse osmosis. The ceramic membrane filtration process removes suspended contaminants from wastewater without using chemical agents and produces filtrate free of suspended solids (TSS) and Fats, Oils and Greases (FOG). The wastewater is further purified with reverse osmosis technology, removing any remaining dissolved constituents from the filtrate.

The KLEENWATER™ system proved to be the economical and environmentally compliant solution Medico was seeking.

KLEENWATER System from Kemco at medical linen and uniform service facility

The Kemco KLEENWATER™ System will save Medico upwards of $150,000 over the next year thanks to daily water reuse costs decreasing from approximately $800 per day to $207 per day.

Installing Kemco’s patented ceramic ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis process will allow Medico to achieve:

  • A 74% decrease in the amount of new water demand per day, which equates to a change from 100,000 gpd to 26,000 gpd
  • A 69% decrease in amount of daily discharge to sewer
  • Up to 74% reuse of wastewater
